By starting pulseaudio system wide it seems that you temporarily circumvented this by starting pulseaudio before speech dispatcher. How do I correct this error? I have no idea which file in that directory was screwing things up. I see what this did now. Pulseaudio was working without any problems till last 2 updates, than started to crash randomly. I finally solved the problem by 'purging' pulseaudio rather than just re-installing: sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoremove I rebooted just for grins, then sudo apt-get Just had to think about it for a bit and it is easy to undo, though unnessary. I'm rather tired of restarting my computer just to get PA working for a while Any and all help is really appreciated. I set PULSEAUDIO_SYSTEM_START to 1. Nice pc there . When i try to open Pulseaudio Volume Control i get the error message, Connection failed, Connection refused. Check This Out I understand your concerns , been destroying my installs since been on Linux for the last 7-8 years !
